Ariel Plastics Supports Sark’s Remarkable New Tractor‑Towed Ambulance
A former horse box on the remote island of Sark has been transformed into a fully functioning ambulance with help from Ariel Plastics.
Sark, known for being car‑free, relies on tractors for emergency response. When the island’s old ambulance reached the end of its life, the volunteer‑run Sark Ambulance Service teamed up with Norman Piette, Guernsey’s largest builders’ merchant, to find a creative solution.
As part of the project, Ariel Plastics donated six Coroclad Satin solid PVC hygienic cladding sheets to line the interior of the converted horse box. These durable, easy‑clean sheets offer a hygienic surface ideal for medical environments, helping prepare the space for safe patient care.
Once completed, the upgraded ambulance can now be hitched to a “blue‑light” tractor and dispatched across the island to reach residents quickly; a unique and life‑saving solution for one of the Channel Islands’ most remote communities.
This tractor‑towed ambulance is a first for Ariel Plastics and a great example of how our materials can support innovative projects in even the most unusual settings.
